(AP) –An exhausted Lindsey Vonn finished 21st in the women’s World Cup giant slalom. It was her return race after missing time with an intestinal illness. Vonn was 10th after the first run, but didn’t have anything left for the second pass through the challenging course. The four-time overall champion wasn’t sure if she was even going to compete in Aspen this weekend because of a stomach bug that landed her in the hospital. Slovenia’s Tina Maze won her second straight giant slalom. SKIING-MEN’S WORLD CUP Sullivan ties for third LAKE LOUISE, Alberta (AP) — American Marco Sullivan earned a podiu m appearance in the men’s World Cup downhill. FORMULA ONE-BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX Hamilton wins pole, Vettel fourth SAO PAULO (AP) — Lewis Hamilton won the pole position for Sunday’s season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix, while Formula One leader Sebastian Vettel (VEHT’-ehl) will start fourth and title challenger Fernando Alonso eighth. Vettel leads Alonso by 13 points and needs to finish fourth or better to capture a third straight driving title at age 25. He could be the youngest three-time champion. Alonso needs at least a podium finish to have any chance of winning his third title. IAAF-AWARDS Bolt named World Athlete of the Year BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Usain Bolt has won the IAAF World Athlete of the Year award for the fourth time over United States hurdler Aries Merritt and Ken yan runner David Rudisha. The Jamaican sprinter, who defended his 100 and 200 meter gold medals at this summer’s Olympic Games, also won the award in 2008, 2009, and 2011. OBIT-CAMACHO Camacho dies SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Former boxing champion Hector “Macho” Camacho has died after being taken off life support at his family’s direction. The 50-year old had been unconscious since being shot in the face in a parked car outside of a bar Tuesday night. He was declared clinically brain dead by doctors on Thursday. Camacho went into cardiac arrest Saturday morning and was taken off life support shortly after that. Camacho’s three decade boxing career was marked by high profile fights with the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad and Roberto Duran. He won world championships in three different weight classes. He ended his career in 2010 with a record of 79-6-3, with 36 knockouts.
