Sermanni to take charge of U.S. Olympic women's champions

The 58-year-old Scot replaces Pia Sundhage, who quit after the U.S. women's team won their third successive Olympic gold medal at Wembley in August to return to her native Sweden. Sermanni was twice Australia's coach and steered them to the World Cup finals three times, reaching the quarter-finals in 2007 and 2011. …

Granger, who averaged a team-high 18.7 points per game last season, was consulting with doctors on Tuesday to get a second opinion, the National Basketball Association team said. The 29-year-old injured a tendon in his left knee during the 2011-12 Eastern Conference semi-finals against the Miami Heat and then aggravated the injury during his off-season workouts. …
