SOCHI, Russia (AP) — Double Olympic champion Charles Hamelin won the men’s 1,000-meter race at a short-track speedskating World Cup event Sunday.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The head of the National Football League, in remarks before the Super Bowl on Sunday, defended his organization’s efforts to make the game safer and flatly denied an allegation that it had deliberately covered up the risks of head injuries in the sport. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, speaking on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” said there had been no effort by the NFL to hide the dangers of brain damage in football, as claimed in a lawsuit by the family of an NFL player who killed himself last year. …
Alcoholic Gascoigne's life in danger, says agent
LONDON (Reuters) – Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne needs immediate help with his life in danger because of alcoholism, his agent said on Sunday. The 45-year-old, who became a national hero thanks to his performances and tears as England reached the 1990 World Cup semi-finals, started shaking uncontrollably at a charity event last week and footage has appeared in the UK media.
