LONDON (Reuters) – Ronaldinho's Brazil return after a one-year absence ended ignominiously when he missed a penalty and was substituted at halftime following a dismal performance in the 2-1 friendly defeat by England on Wednesday. Even taking into account that the Brazilian season has only just started and he is not fully match fit, the 32-year-old's performance was so ponderous that it raised questions about the wisdom of coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's decision to recall him. …

Former NBA star Elgin Baylor's championship ring up for auctionLOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Hall of Fame basketball player Elgin Baylor’s championship ring, warm-up suit and other personal items will be auctioned in May in Beverly Hills, Julien’s Auctions said on Wednesday. Baylor, 78, who was named as one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players, will auction off the 1971-72 NBA Championship ring he earned as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers as well as items from his high school and college days. The championship ring is expected to fetch between $40,000 and $60,000 while a worn Lakers warm-up suit is estimated at $10,000 – $15,000 at the May 31 auction. …

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – Argentina's Lionel Messi failed to score but his team outplayed Sweden to seal a 3-2 win in an entertaining friendly on Wednesday. Argentina took the lead in the third minute when Mikael Lustig steered Gonzalo Higuain's shot into his own net and the Swedes found it hard to get a grip on the game as their opponents retained possession with ease.
